Training sessions at your site
Are you an education professional who would like to find out more about how you can support children with communication, developmental and learning difficulties? At Talking Matters, we provide support and information on a range of issues relevant to professionals who work with children in the northern suburbs. You can choose from a range of packages either designed with a budget in mind, or specially written to your individual centre's requirements.
You can have workshops provided in your setting for your entire team for an hourly rate. Training whole teams together also helps to ensure your team support each other in implementing the new skills and information they learn. Packages can be as short as 2 hours, or be a whole day workshop. If you have a team of support workers in your school, why not consider a whole day workshop where they can develop their skills and be supported in developing a range of appropriate resources for your special needs students?
Certificates of attendance will be provided at conclusion of each of the sessions. Each session is run by at least one of our professional team, often two of them, and are very practical in their approach. Our primary goal is to help people supporting children in our community in being better equipped to do so. We want you to leave with a number of things you can easily put in place your very next working day. If you have particular topics of interest related to child development or disability please let us know. We are always interested in partnering with our local community and are happy to discuss including your team's training needs into our schedule to help you achieve your team development goals.
Other workshops available at your workplace
We offer training sessions for teachers, childcare workers and support staff. The packages listed below are typically 2 hours in length and come with easy to read PowerPoint handouts. Packages that have been well received in previous training sessions are:
- Speech Development & Difficulties
- Language Development & Difficulties
- Understanding Autism
- Questioning & Problem Solving
- Supporting Children with Communication Difficulties
- Supporting Children with Communication Difficulties in Childcare Settings
- Parent Workshop for Early Language Development
- Occupational Therapy in the Classroom
Consultative visits are also available for when you need more individualised and responsive support. Perhaps your team would get the most benefit out of a more informal visit to review and discuss areas of need, where they can ask specific questions and be supported in forming strategies with input from one of our team members? For further information or to discuss options, please contact our office by phoning (08) 8255 7137 and ask for one of our managers to return your call or send us an email enquiry.
Feedback we've recieved
"Lots of practical scenarios.... looking forward to exploring the disk of support materials."
"The information was easy to understand, clear, concise, to the point. The presenters were very informative & knowledgeable...(they) were knowledgeable about the area we teach in too."
"The presenters were very approachable and work in my local area so understand our local needs."
"The workshop was useful in helping me to connect and understand some of the children I work with."
"I now feel it will be easier to communicate with parents and make suggestions for us to work together. I found the workshop interesting, easy to follow information, gaining a better understanding of Autism and Aspergers. The time went quickly. I am eager to put into practise some of the things I have learnt. All of the speakers were friendly and make the workshop interesting. I could identify with a lot of areas that were discussed and gained more useful information to work on. Very helpful."
